U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun To Keynote Annual LA84 Summit
LOS ANGELES–U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun will keynote the second annual LA84 Foundation Summit this Thursday, addressing the need for continued support of school-based and community youth sports programs across the country.
The invitation-only event will be hosted by International Olympic Committee Member and LA84 Foundation President Anita L. DeFrantz. The summit will include panels on recent achievements in the LA84/Beyond the Bell Middle School Sports Program, along with insights from corporate, nonprofit and sports administration professionals. The event will take place on Thursday, October 17th at LA84 Foundation’s West Adams District campus, home to some of the most important Olympic artifacts in the country.
Endowed with the surplus funds of the 1984 Olympic Games, the LA84 Foundation continues to provide millions of dollars in grants to youth sports organizations across Southern California each year. At a time when shrinking budgets are threatening youth athletics programs, presenters will explain how access to sports and physical education advances overall academic achievement, making the case for the continuation and expansion of these programs in Los Angeles and beyond.
The second annual LA84 Foundation Summit will convene a select group of leading researchers, educators, philanthropists and sports administrators from across the United States to share important research findings connecting sports participation and scholastic achievement.
