TITLE: Director, Social and Community Impact
THE ORGANIZATION:
As a legacy of the 1984 Olympic Games, the LA84 Foundation continues to be a nationally recognized leader in support of youth sport programs and elevating the importance of sports in positive youth development. LA84 seeks to provide an opportunity for every child to participate in sports and experience the wide range of positive outcomes associated with youth sport participation. Since its launch in 1985, LA84 has invested millions in the communities that supported the Games, reaching more than 3 million youth throughout Southern California, from Santa Barbara to San Diego County. The LA84 Foundation continues to promote the spirit of the 1984 Olympic Games by convening and engaging local, national and international audiences about the role of sport in society, and the impact of the Olympic Games on host cities, especially as we look ahead to the 2028 Games. In 2024, LA84 Foundation and its affiliated charity Play Equity Fund moved into an enterprise model of operations advancing a shared mission to support the physical and mental wellness of children and youth, to support academic success for young people and to build lifelong pathways to well-being through play equity. Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Chief Impact Officer, the Director, Social and Community Impact, is a member of a high performing team responsible for executing strategic partnerships and projects, implementing legacy programs for major sporting events through the foundation’s charitable arm, The Play Equity Fund. The Director will also oversee and manage LA84 legacy programing in the areas of swim, track, and field and coaching education. The Director will have strong project and program management experience at a high level and will oversee and support the successful delivery of several strategic initiatives. The individual is a proven leader with experience managing cross-functional initiatives, coordinating senior level/high profile stakeholders, and driving implementation through collaborative teamwork critical to the success of highly visible strategic partnerships. This position is cross-functional and collaborates with multiple entities in the LA84 enterprise including but not limited to grants, operations, marketing, and executive leadership. The individual will also understand grantmaking processes and have experience using data to track progress and effectiveness of efforts and develop summary and detailed reports to support transparent communications for internal and external stakeholders.
Seeking a thoughtful, strategic, intuitive individual with strong communication skills and the desire to be a key contributor to the organization’s efforts. The ideal candidate will have experience working in nonprofit, philanthropic or social impact organizations managing collaborative efforts or programming focused on gender or racial equity with varied stakeholders and can implement programs and projects with efficiency, transparency and joy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Management
- Implement and manage cross-functional programs and projects with external partners.
- Create, manage and present detailed project plans and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate teams and project resources for on-time task completion
- Work collaboratively with other teams in the enterprise.
- Support coordination with other teams within the enterprise through clear documentation, communication, and management of project plans.
- Design, develop and distribute program reports and analytics that effectively track project progress to defined metrics and support stakeholder review
- Drive alignment across all programs and identify opportunities to collaborate
- Develop and cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Lead grantee capacity building efforts including communities of practice.
Management and Leadership
- Support the establishment of new partnerships with stakeholders, civic institutions, corporations to advance the mission, values and strategic vision.
- Co-create departmental goals to support the success of the department and the Foundation overall.
- Supervise and identify strengths of team members and identify and support professional development opportunities
- Lead and participate in organizational wide teams to support success of the Foundation
- Manage and report on the internal budget and resources.
- Represent the Foundation at community events.
Grantmaking
- Support and review program outcomes, analyze data to inform future program and related grantmaking strategy.
- Implement, support and manage programmatic grants and contracts.
- In collaboration with the grants team, makes program specific grant recommendations
Qualifications and Skills:
- Master’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- Ten years of experience in program management, four or more years as program manager or program officer.
- Knowledge and passion for youth development.
- Experience with youth sports, coaching education.
- Experience with and understanding of basics of grantmaking and familiarity with grants management software and relational databases.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills. Able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
- Demonstrated experience managing stakeholder expectations through clearly defined project objectives and focused execution against plans.
- Creative problem solver who is interested in understanding different points of view and new ways of approaching problems.
- Values-driven with a demonstrated passion for the work of the LA84 Foundation and the Play Equity Fund. strives to model organizational values through daily actions and behaviors.
- Ability to effectively multitask, prioritize, organize and collaborate, especially on multiple projects with competing priorities simultaneously.
- Adaptable and comfortable working on dynamic projects.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work efficiently and multi-task.
- Valid driver’s license and automobile.
Working Conditions:
- General office environment, depending on health and safety precautions. Working in a hybrid working environment with a certain number of days/week on-site.
- Physical demands include lifting and moving equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds, visual acuity in reviewing detailed computer records, physical requirements related to sports activities and periodic travel.
- Occasional weekend, late afternoon, and evening hours.

TITLE: Development Assistant
Summary: Reporting to the Development Director, the Development Assistant is a member of a high performing team, who possesses knowledge of nonprofits, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and enthusiasm to join a dynamic team. This new position is an integral member of the Development team and will offer critical support to achieve the organization’s high-impact fundraising goals, particularly in our creation and launch of a three-year Development strategic plan. Reporting to the Director of Development, she/he will support the needs of the Development Department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Development Assistant will have the following job responsibilities:
Donor Database Entry including:
- Adding new constituent records.
- Constituent Tracking Notes & Actions.
- Regular maintenance of donor record changes to address and email updates (address changes, capturing seasonal addresses, etc.)
- Maintain basic queries for weekly department reports.
Donor Services:
- Coordinating meetings with Development staff and external parties [prospects, vendors, partners].
- Administrative solicitation related Development tasks (collating mailings, scanning, sorting, filing, copying, etc.)
- Assistance with Development related collateral materials (updating files, compiling meeting materials, presentation preparation).
- Donor current and prospect related research.
- Organize donor appreciation outreach: thank you calls and annual cultivation/preparing donor related appreciation gifts, etc.
Events:
- Help to organize and manage event related guest lists, and/or donor related Committee agendas.
- Assist with and occasionally lead the execution of donor related events.
Marketing/Communications:
- In collaboration with the Communication Department, organize and maintain segmented e-mail and print mail lists
- Support the Development team with Development related annual donor campaigns, content/story production and social media related materials.
- Writing and editing materials for all Development related activities
Department Administration
- Responsible for taking minutes and distributing notes during internal staff meetings
- Other duties as needed that are aligned with priorities of the Department and Organization
Qualifications and Skills:
- 2-4 years’ experience as an executive assistant (non-profit organization experience preferred).
- Experience with donor CRM databases required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
- Comfortable working independently and contributing to a dynamic team.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work in fast-paced and growing environment in a shared office space.
- Exceptionally well-organized and a strong ability to prioritize.
Working Conditions:
- General office environment, depending on health and safety precautions. Working in a hybrid working environment with a certain number of days/week on-site.
